U2 Concert to Alter Traffic Patterns, Bus Routes
On Thursday, Oct. 1, the University of Virginia will host rock group U2 at Scott Stadium. The show, scheduled to start at 7 p.m., is expected to draw more than 50,000 attendees.

Preparations for the show will begin on Thursday, Sept. 24, as approximately 100 trucks begin deliveries for the 180-ton stage structure to be constructed in the stadium.
On Oct. 1, roads immediately adjacent to the stadium will close at 5 p.m., and University Transit Service bus routes will be altered that day. Roads closing at 5 p.m. include:
- Alderman Road/Maury Avenue: Between Ivy Road and Fontaine Avenue
- Hereford Road: Between Stadium Road and Edgemont Road
- George Welsh Way: Between Alderman Road and Stadium Road
- McCormick Road: Between Emmet Street and Alderman Road
- Stadium Road: Between Emmet Street and Alderman Road
- Whitehead Road: Between Alderman Road and Stadium Road

Drama Department Launches 2009-10 Season
"The Foreigner” opens U.Va.’s Department of Drama’s 2009-10 season on Sept. 24 and will run through Oct. 2 at the Culbreth Theatre. Pancakes for Parkinson’s Event Slated for October
On Saturday, Oct. 10, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on U.Va.’s Lawn, students and community residents can enjoy breakfast while joining in the fight against Parkinson’s disease. The student organization, Pancakes for Parkinson’s, will provide free pancakes, syrup and orange juice, but donations will be accepted. Area Leaders Attend Neighborhoods Advisory Group Meeting
More than 20 community and neighborhood leaders attended U.Va.’s Fall Neighborhoods Advisory Group Meeting on Monday, Sept. 21. David Neuman, Architect for the University, kicked off the meeting by sharing information about current and planned academic and Health System building projects. Marge Sidebottom, director of the University’s Office of Emergency Preparedness, outlined the steps being taken to educate employees and students about H1N1. Rebecca White, director of U.Va.’s Parking and Transportation Department, shared travel and parking information related to the Oct. 1 U2 concert at Scott Stadium. Employees Demonstrate Support of Local Community
On Wednesday, Sept. 23, about 1,000 U.Va. employees participated in the 18th Annual United Way Laurence E. Richardson Day of Caring. Nearly 2,500 volunteers from Charlottesville-area businesses donated their time to complete approximately 200 projects at agencies and schools in Charlottesville and Albemarle, Fluvanna, Louisa and Nelson counties. The 2009 Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign (CVC) at U.Va. kicks off on Monday, Oct. 12. Held each fall, the CVC is a workplace-giving program through which state employees can support the charities of their choice in areas such as health and human services, animal welfare and environmental causes.
