The Sofa Shuffle, the University of Virginia's Off-Grounds Furniture Donation Drive, enables students to put their unwanted furniture, appliances and clothing to good use by donating it to local charities. Collection sites set up after Final Exams and Final Exercises serve as drop-off locations for unwanted items that are donated to the Salvation Army.
Through the Sofa Shuffle, the University of Virginia and its partners have made move-out activities easier for many departing students and diverted tons of unwanted furniture and household items from area dumpsters and landfills.
The Sofa Shuffle complements Chuck it For Charity, an annual on-Grounds recycling effort through which students in residence halls can donate their unneeded household items to local charities. Since the program began, more than 70 tons of household goods have been donated to community organizations.
