Beckman Scholars at U.Va.

The Beckman Scholars program at U.Va. will provide annually one or more $19,300 scholarships to highly talented, research-oriented students who will work in select mentors' laboratories for two summers and the intervening academic year. Students work with one of 15 identified faculty mentors. Funded by the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation, this program is intended to advance the education, research training, and personal development of select students in chemistry, biochemistry, and the biological and medical sciences.
Eligibility
U.Va. undergraduates who will be enrolled during 2012-13 are eligible to apply for this program.
Term
Full-time for 10 weeks during summers 2012 and 2013, 10 hours per week during 2012-13 academic year.
Support
$6,000 per summer; $4,000 per academic year; additional funds for supplies and conference travel.
Application Process
Application materials include a letter describing the student's interest in pursuing research, a resume, an unofficial transcript, a two-page research plan, and two letters of support.
