Fulbright US Student Award

Established in 1946, the Fulbright Program aims to increase mutual understanding between the peoples of the United States and other countries, through the exchange of persons, knowledge, and skills. Awards are available in all fields of study.


U.S. citizens who will hold at least a bachelor's degree or its equivalent prior to undertaking the grant are eligible. Graduate students may apply as long as they do not have a PhD at the time of application. The type of grants available are: (1) Research/Study grants are available for independent research and/or academic study. Included among these grants are partnership grants with individual institutions abroad. Generally 9-12 months


The Fulbright US Student Award generally provides round-trip transportation to host country; maintenance for the academic year, based on living costs in the host country; book and research allowance; medical insurance; mid-term enrichment activities in many countries or world regions; full or partial tuition, in most cases (see relevant Country Summary for details); language or orientation programs, in some cases (see relevant Country Summary for details)
