Scholarships and Fellowships:

The Astronaut Scholarship is a $10,000 award for outstanding students who exhibit motivation, imagination, and exceptional performance in the fields of engineering and natural or applied sciences.
Current second- or third-year students are eligible; US citizenship is required. Applicants must be majoring in engineering or natural or applied science (e.g. astronomy, biology, chemistry, physics, earth science, computer science) or mathematics, with intentions to pursue research or advance their field upon completion of their final degrees. Students intending to pursue a practice in professional medicine are not eligible for the scholarship. However, those intending to perform biomedical research are eligible. Applicants are expected to have conducted a considerable amount of research in their field.
One year, renewable for one additional year in some instances.
Applicants must submit the following materials: (1) faculty nomination form and supporting letter; (2) second letter of recommendation from a UVa faculty member; (3) one-page statement (12 point type) of personal interests, activities, hobbies, and goals; (4) completed financial form; (5) official transcript; and (6) resume. All materials are due to the Center for Undergraduate Excellence, Harrison Institute. Applicants should be prepared to submit proof of citizenship (copy of birth certificate, passport, or naturalization papers) if nominated.
