Truman Scholarship
Website: http://www.truman.gov/ Deadline: 2012-11-26 (Internal) The Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation awards scholarships to students who want to attend graduate school in preparation for careers in public service. Each year, approximately 60 awards are given. Winners are provided with leadership training, graduate school counseling, and internship opportunities with federal agencies.
Eligibility
Third-year students at the University who are in the top quarter of the class (though the most competitive applicants have a GPA well above 3.5). Applicants must have extensive experience in leadership and public service and be able to identify a graduate program of study that will lead toward a career in the student’s field of service.
Term
Senior undergraduate year in college and two years of graduate studies.
Support
Up to $30,000; $3,000 to be used for expenses in the fourth year of college; the balance to be used for graduate school.
Application Process
Candidates must be nominated by the Center for Undergraduate Excellence. The University may nominate 4 candidates for this award. Students interested in applying for the Truman Scholarship should set up an appointment at the Center to discuss the application process.
