Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship Program - U.S. Department of State

This program provides undergraduate and graduate funding to participants as they are prepared academically and professionally to enter the U.S. Department of State. Fellows must commit to pursuing a graduate degree in international studies at one of the graduate schools participating in the program. Additionally, fellows must commit to serve 3 years as a foreign service officer.

Eligibility

Third-year students with a GPA of 3.2 or higher may apply. Applicants must be U.S. citizens.

Term

Two years (senior year in college; first year of graduate study). Fellows must participate in one overseas and one domestic summer internship within the U.S. Department of State. Students receive a stipend during the internships.

Support

Financial support of up to $40,000 annually towards expenses for the senior year and the first year of graduate study. Participating schools provide financial support in the second year of graduate study based on need.
