Research Focus: Research Focus: The overall goal of the Applied Metabolism & Physiology Laboratory is to apply basic concepts in metabolism and physiology to exercise for the improvement of health. Our laboratory focuses on understanding the mechanism by which people develop type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease, and how to best use exercise to reverse this process. We are also highly interested in understanding how diet, pharmacology and bariatric surgery interact with exercise to optimize metabolic health.

Position Description:

  1. Engage with clinical research participants involved in lifestyle interventions.
  2. Collect data on metabolism, appetite, fitness and body composition.
  3. Organize data and manage subject schedules.
  4. Analyze blood samples for different substrates and hormones thought to impact diabetes and cardiovascular disease risk.
  5. Conduct literature reviews pertaining to diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular disease.

Computer software: Comfort with word, excel, and powerpoint

Training/certification: CITI training for work on IRB approved studies, and Biological Safety training.
