Research Focus: The history of the desegregation of K-12 public schools in the South during the Civil Rights era, esp. UVa's role with VA public schools (1967-1981).
Job Description: Student will locate & organize archival materials (on-line & on Grounds), maintain a database of documents & interviews, and take notes & transcribe interviews/documents.
Required Skills, Courses, Resources, or Background: Good writing and note-taking skills; willingness to learn archival & historical research methods;3) good time & task management skills-a plus. Microsoft Office (Word, Powerpoint; Excel-a plus)
Training: In September 2014 the student selected for this position will have received: 1) 10 hrs of research training with Prof. Grimes & Curry/University library staff. 2) Review & discuss selected readings with Prof. Grimes (she will provide). Student may receive training & use data analysis software during the project year
