Prerequisites
102/106 Level in Chinese, Japanese, Korean or Tibetan language. A grade of C or higher must be earned each semester.
Requisites 18 credits with the following distribution:
- 3 credits in EAST 101;
- 3 credits in an East Asian History (HIEA) course;
- 3 credits in an East Asian Humanities (Art History, Architectural History, Literature, Religion) course; see the DEAL-LC website for lists of approved courses;
- 3 credits in East Asian Social Sciences course from one of the following departments: Anthropology, Economics, History, Politics, Studies in Women and Gender [3 credits]
- 6 credits of elective courses from the DEAL-LC lists on its website;
NOTE: A maximum of 6 transfer credits can be used to satisfy the 18 credit requirement. Credits applied toward a minor cannot count toward a major.
Declaring a Minor
- Select a region of concentration (China, Japan, Korea, Tibet)
- Review course listings and the Requirements for the East Asian Studies Minor Worksheet. You may download the requirements worksheet from the departmental website (see above) or obtain one from the departmental office in B027 Cabell Hall.
- Obtain the following form: Declaration of Minor in East Asian Studies Form. You may download the form (see above). The form is also available in B027 Cabell Hall.
- Complete the top portion of the Minor Declaration Form.
- Make an appointment with the advisor for East Asian Studies. (See http://www.virginia.edu/deallc/people_advisors.html).
- Bring the following items to your meeting with the advisor: the Requirements for the Minor in East Asian Studies Worksheet and the Declaration of Minor in East Asian Studies Form.
- Submit copies of form to the appropriate parties (as indicated on the bottom of the form).
