Apply for Women’s Asian American Leadership Initiative (WAALI)

The Office of the Dean of Students is pleased to celebrate the fifth year of the Women’s Asian American Leadership Initiative (WAALI).  We are looking for committed Second Year and Third Year women, who are interested in creating a network of allies to discuss and learn about the roles of Asian Pacific American (APA) women in today’s society.

If you are interested in the program, please complete the brief application that can be found below.  Your completed application (copy and paste application below into a word document) is due by 12PM (noon) on Tuesday, September 18th to waalifacs@virginia.eduPlease also sign up for an interview time when you turn in your application. The schedule for interviews can be accessed using a link in the application below.

The schedule of meetings and a tentative outline of discussion topics for the semester is listed below:

  • October 1: Introduction – What does it mean to be an APA Woman?
  • October 15: APA Women at U.Va
  • October 22: Socialization of the APA Woman
  • October 29: Socialization of the APA Woman (continued)
  • November 5: APA Women and Relationships
  • November 12: APA Women Leadership Panel
  • November 19: Final Session

WAALI meetings will run for an hour and a half from 8:00-9:30PM on the above mentioned dates.

Women’s Asian American Leadership Initiative (WAALI)

Fall 2012 Application

The Office of the Dean of Students is pleased to announce the fifth year of our leadership development program for second and third-year Asian/Asian Pacific American women.

WAALI provides a small group of second and third-year APA women with the opportunity to learn and share strategies for personal and professional success at UVA and beyond.  If selected, students will participate in a series of sessions designed to facilitate dialogue on topics affecting APA women. Through structured weekly conversation over the course of the fall semester, WAALI provides a small group of women with the chance to share and learn strategies for personal and professional success as APA women at UVA and beyond.

Please complete this application by 12:00 pm on Tuesday, September 18th and submit electronically to the WAALI facilitators at waalifacs@virginia.edu.

Interviews will occur on Wednesday, September 19th and Friday, September 21st
