Employment Opportunities

Our office partners closely with the University of Virginia Career Center which has a talented team of professionals committed to serving all students as they explore their career options and helping them navigate each step. The Career Center also has specific supports for Access UVA and First-Generation Students. Whether you’re considering holding a part-time job while you are attending school, or you’re authorized to have a work-study position through your financial aid package the Career Center staff can assist you.

Balancing work and school requires planning and good time management whether you’re working on grounds or off. If you need advice as you make these decisions, please feel free to see Laurie Casteen or Shaka Sydnor, in the Office of the Dean of Students, to talk through your options.  Below are some specific resources for job-seekers.

On-Grounds Employment Opportunities
There are many opportunities to work on and around Grounds. To find out about some of the opportunities available on Grounds, see the websites below. Remember some professors will also hire students as research assistants in various departments.  Working for a professor can be a great way to get to know a faculty member and learn more about an area of interest. Also remember that as a student, most on-Grounds employment opportunities will be considerate of your academic schedule.

Off-Grounds Employment Opportunities
There are also a lot of great opportunities in and around the Charlottesville area. Many require transportation to get to and from.  If you do not have access to a car, know there are a number of free public transportation options listed on the Housing, Dining and Transportation section of this website.  Here are a few places to search for employment opportunities off Grounds.
