Cultural Programming Board: Need money for cultural programming?

The Cultural Programming Board (CPB) is charged by the Vice President for Student Affairs with the responsibility of supporting the development and implementation of cultural programming at the University of Virginia.

 The CPB seeks to accomplish this charge through support of student initiated cultural programming. The CPB works toward this goal by operating within the following framework and definitions:

  • Culture: Culture shall be defined as shared traditions, values, ideologies and customs that exist over time and exist as a method through which communities and individuals identify and relate to one another.
  • Cultural Programming: Cultural programming shall be defined as programs that provide for the intellectual and artistic expression and exploration of culture as defined herein.
  • Programs are expected to contribute to and enrich the University community. The CPB is committed to implementing and supporting cultural programs that are open to the University community and that further three or more of the following goals:
    •  Increasing the presence of underrepresented cultural perspectives;
    •  Contributing to the education of the University community;
    • Fostering greater links among students of different backgrounds; and
    • Stimulating new and creative thinking about culture, inclusiveness and community

The CPB allocates a yearly budget of $20,000 to UVA Contracted Independent Organizations (CIO), organizations governed by the Fraternal Organization Agreement (FOA), Special Status organizations, Agency organizations, and Residence Life Groups for creative and innovative approaches to cultural programming. Examples of events funded in the past include India Day, Queer Black Cinema, Simosas & Chai at Lighting of the Lawn, Voices 2009, and Black History Bowl.

Once your application materials have been received and processed, you will be contacted to schedule a proposal hearing time on the date indicated on your application.

Fall Proposal Hearings

  • December 8, 2009 · 7:00 – 8:30pm
    Proposals must be turned in by December 3, 2009 at midnight
