Intern (2 positions available: Volunteer Coordinator and Programs Intern)
Serve as Volunteer Coordinator, run Coffee Hour, organize and publicize major events, maintain Resource Center library, and assist in the overall functioning of the Resource Center. There will also be an opportunity to facilitate/co-facilitate Safe Space trainings.
LGBT Health Promotions
Work with the AIDS/HIV Service Group (ASG) of Charlottesville to arrange monthly HIV testing on Grounds, as well as work on addressing issues of intimate partner violence and sexual assault. Be a liaison to Sexual Assault Leadership Council
Train speakers and organize panels to educate the community about LGBT issues. Panels will be presented to different groups around Grounds and Charlottesville, such as Greek organizations, youth groups, diversity workshops, and residence halls.
Queer People of Color (M2)
Facilitate/maintain a social group for students who identify as both queer/questioning and a person of color.
Facilitate/maintain a social and support network interested in providing a positive experience for lesbian, bisexual, gay, transgender, queer, and questioning members of the Greek community.
Facilitate a social and discussion group for all members of the UVA community interested in gender identity and expression. Further transgender, genderqueer, and intersex issues on Grounds via interactions with students, faculty and administrators.
Organize social events and maintain listserv for graduate students. Activities vary each semester. Past events have included brunches, wine tastings, happy hours, and mixers.
Diversity Outreach Coordinator
Identify ways to make the LGBT Resource Center and its programming more inclusive of multiple communities. Specific focus on anti-racism efforts, social justice programming, and collaboration/co-sponsorship with other communities.
Resource Center Peer Advisors (2 positions available)
Coordinate the LGBTQ Peer Advisor Program, train advisors, and match advisees, creating a greater sense of family and community amongst the queer community at UVA.
