Driving Directions

The University of Virginia is located in Charlottesville, Virginia, approximately 120 miles southwest of Washington, D.C. Two major highways, Interstate 64 and US 29, intersect close to the University Grounds. Ample hourly parking is available in the Central Grounds Visitors' Parking Garage on Emmet Street.

From I-64, take exit 118B onto the 29/250 Bypass; then take the second exit (250 East Business), making a right at the top of the ramp and then another right, roughly a mile later, onto Route 29 Business/Emmet Street. The Central Grounds Visitors' Parking Garage will be on your left.

To reach US 29 from the Northeast, take I-495 around Washington to I-66 West. From I-66 West, take the exit marked “US 29 South - Gainesville.” Proceed to Charlottesville where Route 29 becomes Emmet Street. Pass the John Paul Jones basketball arena on the right. Proceed straight through the traffic light at the intersection of Route 250 Business (University Ave/Ivy Rd.). Turn left into the Central Grounds Visitors' Parking Garage. If you reach the Jefferson Park Avenue (JPA) traffic light, you have gone too far.

See the UVA Webmap.

Walking Directions

Peabody Hall is a short walk from the Central Grounds Visitors' Parking Garage. From the top floor of the garage, walk across the brick courtyard and up the outside steps to your right and adjacent to Newcomb Hall. At the top of the stairs, follow the sidewalk straight ahead. The building to your left is Peabody Hall, which houses the Office of Admission and the Dean of Students. There is a blue sign in front of the building.

If you have difficulty accessing steps and prefer to take an elevator, please use this alternate route. From the top floor of the Central Grounds Visitors' Parking Garage, walk across the brick courtyard and through the white double doors of Newcomb Hall. Walk down the hallway in front of you, and turn right into a smaller hallway. Take the elevator (on your right) to the third floor. Leave Newcomb Hall on the third floor and walk to the building located directly behind Newcomb Hall. This is Peabody Hall, which houses the Office of Admission and the Dean of Students. You can enter through the front door on the opposite side of the building.
