Safe Space

The Safe Space network is made up of University faculty, staff, and students who are committed to being allies of the LGBT community. All members complete a two-hour training that consists of information about the LGBT population and how to be an ally. At the end of the training, participants are given a distinctive rainbow-colored sticker that reads, “This symbol identifies someone who is sensitive and supportive to lesbian, gay, bi, and trans people, as well as those questioning their sexual orientation." These stickers can be seen all around Grounds to visibly designate safe spaces.

Speakers Bureau

The LGBT Resource Center's Speakers Bureau consists of LGBT and allied students, faculty, and staff who volunteer their time to educate the University community about LGBT issues. The Speakers Bureau presents in an open Q&A panel format that allows for a great deal of interaction between the audience and the members of the panel.

We are happy to present in classrooms, residence halls, Greek organizations, diversity workshops or retreats - just about anywhere! If you are interested in having the LGBT Resource Center Speakers Bureau present to your organization, or becoming a panelist, contact bdickson@virginia.edu.

Coffee Hour

A weekly gathering in the Resource Center from noon to 2:00 p.m. every Monday. Come join us for free coffee, snacks, and conversation.

Free HIV Testing

The LGBT Resource Center, in conjuction with the AIDS/HIV Services Group of Charlottesville, sponsors free monthly HIV testing. Tests are confidential and are conducted using OraSure, a quick and painless method that involves no blood or needles.
