PMP and MEMP: BBQ Social
The Hispanic/Latino Peer Mentoring Program and Middle Eastern Mentoring Program had a joint BBQ as a way to meet and mingle with friends and fellow mentors/mentees to end the semester.
The Latino Student Alliance, Latino Leadership Council, and UVA Dining Hall services helped decorate, cook, and serve meals for the Hispanic/Latino Themed Meal at the O’hill Dining Hall! We were able to serve churros, guacamole, arroz con pollo, cuban sandwiches, yuca, and many more delicious dishes with some incredible performances and live music.
PMP Extended Familia Lunch
As the last big event for the Peer Mentoring Program, they celebrated a great year with the mentor and mentees by bonding with the extended familia and enjoying some delicious food!
Siente El Ritmo
The Latino Student Alliance Cultura Committee hosted the annual Ritmo celebration that recognizes the diverse culture of the Hispanic/Latino community at UVa. The showcase displayed some outstanding performances and diverse acts by Fuego, X-Tasee, the Whethermen, the Salsa Club, Lambda Upsilon Lambda, Lambda Theta Alpha, and Sigma Lambda Upsilon. You could Feel the Rhythm, “Siente el Ritmo” through all the amazing performances.
A reception that was hosted by the Office of Dean of Students, the Office of Admissions, and the Alumni Association to celebrate the accomplishments and experiences of our diverse network of alumni, current and future students, as well as the faculty members within the Hispanic/ Latino community at the University of Virginia.
UVa welcomed prospective Hispanic/ Latino students to the University of Virginia as they stayed a night with their host to take part in some amazing activites such as the Asado hosted by the Latino Greeks, tours of the Grounds, La Gala, and many more activities to introduce them to the University of Virginia
LSA Advocacy & OYFA: Immigration Debate
The Latino Student Alliance Advocacy Committee and the Organization of Young Filipino Americans held a debate that included members from the Burke Society and the Jefferson Literary and Debating Society to discuss whether or not undocumented individuals should be granted legal status in the US. It was a great way to get informed from the two sides of the arguments and an opportunity to hear from first-hand experience from DREAMers.
Lambda Theta Alpha: Founder’s Week

The Lovely Ladies of the Gamma Alpha Chapter of Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc. celebrated their 14 almighty years at the University of Virginia with a week full of events!
Latino Leadership Council & UPC: Empowerment Comedy Night with Ernie G!
The Latino Leadership Council and the University Programs Council welcomed the empowerment comedian Ernie G to UVA! This event was filled with gut busted laughter and getting everyone’s perspective widened as Ernie hilariously illustrates the various trials and experiences that come with identifying as a Latino/Hispanic in the U.S.
Paseo a UVa
The LSA Community Outreach Committee invited families from Southwood and Crenshaw Court to spend the day at UVa. Their goal was for all the guests to get a feeling of the University life and all the opportunities that are presented within it by having spending the day with all the amazing kids and families while enjoying many activities such as soccer, face painting, and many more.
PMP Plays Volleyball
The Peer Mentoring Program Familias had their first day out in the Nameless Volleyball Courts to play sand volleyball as well as other sports on the available field nearby to join the mentors and mentees together.
Third Annual Semi-Formal Event: Primavera
The Latino Student Alliance hosted their 3rd annual Semi-Formal Dance, Primavera! As a way to start off the Spring Season, “Primavera”, with special guest, DJ Beleza, who played everyone’s favorite Latino music including a variety of merengue, bachata, salsa, and reggaeton!
Latinos on the Lawn
The Latino Student Alliance hosted their monthly social event where they encouraged students to gather on the Lawn while enjoying some delicious pan con cafe while listening to some great music!
Sigma Lambda Upsilon: Second Annual Founder’s Week

The Hermanas of Sigma Lambda Upsilon/ Señoritas Latinas Unidas Sorority, Incorporated, Alpha Rho Chapterhas hosted a week of events in celebration of the 2nd Annual Founder’s Week! The Alpha Rho Chapter of ΣΛΥ was officially established on March 23, 2013 by 4 Hermanas. To celebrate their establishment they held events including discussions, presentations, community service and their much-anticipated Banquet, as they celebrated 2 years!
Lambda Upsilon Lambda & Alpha Phi Alpha: Expressions D’Oro
Expressions D’Oro, a cultural/talent showcase, displayed some of the best talent UVA has to offer. Poets, musicians, singers, and comedians, put on their skills and abilities to create an amazing show!

LUL and LTA had a discussion and gave out tips on social media settings and profile pictures to display how to professionally manage your social media accounts. In addition, they also provided professional Linkedin headshots afterwards for those who want one!
LSA Advocacy & Sigma Omicron Rho Queer & Allied Fraternity: Noche de Sexo
The Latino Student Alliance Advocacy Committee and Sigma Omicron Rho Queer & Allied Fraternity hosted a night of sex education and dialogue. With the help from the Peer Health educators they discussed a range of topics like: birth-control, contraceptives, STIs, where you can get tested on grounds, lubrication, abstinence, and societies expectations concerning sex.
Sigma Lambda Upsilon & Zeta Phi Beta: Let Loose
In honor of Black History Month, the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Tau Theta Chapter and Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Señoritas Latinas Unidas Sorority, Inc., Alpha Rho Chapter hosted their event, Let Loose! They invite hair stylists for an open discussion about the myths and misconceptions about hair for both men and women.

La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity, Feminism is for Everyone, and Hoos Open to Preventing Eating Disorders co-sponsored for the screening of “Miss Representation.”
University Salsa Fest
The University Salsa Club hosted their annual Salsa Fest that includes nine workshops and one giant party all packed in one day. This event included instructors from all over the east coast, representing Atlanta, DC, Richmond, and Charlottesville! After party and social dancing with music by Richmond’s DJ Steve Greene, and Charlottesville’s live band Conjunto Sason.

The Peer Mentoring Program held their Bowling Event as a way to have a great start to the Spring semester and to allow the mentors and mentees to mingle with each other as the semester commences.

Sigma Lambda Upsilon: Love in the Stacks
The Hermanas of the Alpha Rho Chapter of Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Señoritas Latinas Unidas Sorority, Incorporated celebrated Valentine’s Day by sharing the love with all students as a study break from the Señoritas. They provided free love bites and hot drinks for those long study hours.
