Your safety is very important to the University. There are a number of resources available to you to not only help ensure your safety but also provide assistance if you find yourself in an uncomfortable situation. Be sure to keep the phone numbers listed below with you at all times.
A partnership between Student Council and the UVa Police Department – SafeRide is available after midnight for students who need to get safely from one location on Grounds to another. Call their number, display your student ID when the distinctly marked SafeRide vehicle arrives, and you will be driven home for free. Check out their website for the SafeRide Map and hours of operation or reach them after midnight at (434) 242-1122.
SafeWalk is also sponsored by Student Council and, like SafeRide, provides another safe mode of transportation for students when traveling home at night. Designated student walkers will escort students home both on- and off-Grounds at night. Call (434) 242-1122 between 9pm-2am, Sunday through Thursday, to have a team accompany you on your walk.
The University Police Department is a professional police department providing the same level of service offered by a municipal police department, as well as other services unique to an academic institution. The department is responsible for the well-being of everyone at the University, 24 hours a day. To find out more check out their website. Should you have an emergency dial 911 to reach the University Police.
