Orientation & New Student Programs

Orientation & New Student Programs assists first-year and transfer students and their families in making successful academic, intellectual, and social transitions to the University. Programs and activities include:

Summer and Fall Orientations – sessions filled with opportunities and programs for incoming students to learn about the University, get to know people, and strengthen their connection to UVA.
Grounds for Discussion – a student-directed and performed theatrical production focusing on issues and decisions facing first-year students, followed by small group discussions in residence halls.

Transfer Student Peer Advisor (TSPA) Program – a service matching new transfer students with returning students to facilitate transfers’ introduction to the University, promoting interaction and offering ongoing support and resources.
Family Weekend – a weekend inviting families to visit with their students and celebrate their accomplishments, during which families experience together the rich diversity of life on Grounds, gaining a sense of the intellectual life at UVA and an awareness of the many resources available to students.
