Designed and built by Thomas Jefferson and founded in 1819 on the principle that the liberal arts constitute the foundation for any education, the University of Virginia continues to be the top ranked public institution in the nation.
The Department of Drama has developed its undergraduate and graduate curricula in concert with the ideals and objectives of this historic university. Its liberal arts orientation serves as the foundation of the creative focus and energy of our theatre work. The Department of Drama complex includes the 595 seat Culbreth Theatre with proscenium stage, and the flexible 160-200 seat Helms Theatre. The building houses a high-tech classroom and an excellent Fine Arts Library is just a few steps away.
