We’re featuring in this newsletter issue a number of stories about behind-the-scenes activity in our department. Technical Director Steven Warner reports on all the recent upgrades in the Drama building; our costume department features an article on guest costume technologist Kara Moore’s recent fall term residence in the costume shop and Assistant Professor Marcy Linton reports on her spring plans while she’s away on sesqui. One of our MFA Scene design students, Lisi Stoessel, is sharing her experience of her internship with Pig Iron Theatre of Philadelphia, and assistant Professor Michael Rasbury reports on projects he’s undertaking during his spring ’08 sesqui and also on the west coast workshop reading of a new musical work that he’s developing entitled Max Understood. Finally, we include a UVA Today article about our sold-out Dance Concert last November!

As February approaches we’re anxiously anticipating the opening of the Arts Grounds Parking Structure located directly to the north of the Drama Building.  We’re hoping that its ready for our 1st production of the spring term – Jason Robert Brown’s Songs for a New World - but, it certainly will be ready for the return of Heritage Rep this summer.

Late January I’ll be meeting with William Rawn Associates, Inc. of Boston to begin a planning discussion for the Ruth Caplin Thrust Theatre.  The start date for this 300 seat theatre is still to be determined, but I hope to have a better sense of when the project may start following two days of meetings with representatives from the Rawn firm.

Here are a couple of recent pictures of what it's looking like around the building –

Looking toward our building from Rugby Road, the Arts Grounds parking structure is to the right and the steel skeleton of the Ruffin Hall Studio Art building to the left standing in front of the Drama Building.
