Pam Black, Lecturer, Figure Drawing
In the fall, Pam Black exhibited her work at the Walker Fine Arts Gallery in Orange. She was invited to participate in the five gallery tour which consisted of artists from the Piedmont region. Her work depicted scenes of the local landscape and animals in it. Interpreted through her own personal style, Black synthesized her impressions of everyday experiences in nature with her fascination with Aboriginal art.
Michael Rasbury, Assistant Professor, Sound Design
Michael returns this semester having completed a list of professional activity starting last May. In early May, he traveled to Switzerland to record and produce a new album for recording artist Doug Duffey. From there he returned to The Lost Colony Outdoor Drama to serve as resident sound designer. Michael then traveled to Boulder, Colorado, where he served as composer for the Colorado Shakespeare Festival’s production of Macbeth. In July, his musical, Max Understood, co-written with Nancy Carlin, was selected for a professional reading at the Eugene O’Neill National Music Theatre Conference in Waterford, Connecticut. Upon returning to UVa for the fall semester, Michael was selected as a Mead Endowment “Honored Faculty”. A new course was funded by the Mead Endowment called “Form is Sound” and is being offered this semester. In November, Michael traveled to New York City to serve as sound designer for a new adaptation of Irwin Shaw’s Bury The Dead.
This semester, Michael is offering the Mead Endowment supported “Form is Sound” course. Students attending the course represent a variety of artistic and scientific disciplines offered at the University of Virginia. In March, he will return to New York City to serve as sound designer for the award winning Transport Group’s new musical, Being Audrey.
