Kim Brooks Mata original screendance Minutes

Kim Brooks Mata’s original piece Minutes, will be part of an interdisciplinary conference at U.Va. on the theme of distance and interaction. The conference is titled [0] (ZeroSpace), and through talks and performances will examine how humans interact with one another and with their environment through technology.  ZeroSpace takes place on February 18th and 19th 2013 at OpenGrounds.

Minutes was funded by a 4VA Arts Grant, and is based upon an exploration of presence, proximity and communication through dance performance and the use of collaboration technology. Ms. Mata, Interim Head and Artistic Director of Dance, choreographed, directed, and edited a multi-site screendance for 7 dancers (U.Va. dance minors and alumni). The shoot locations were in the TelePresence conference rooms on grounds in the Clemons Library and Clark Hall. Michael Rasbury, Associate Professor of Sound Design in the Department of Drama created an original soundtrack for the work
.
More information on Zero Space can be found here.
