As previously noted, performances of God’s Ear  in the Helms Theatre will be February 21-23, February 26-28, and March 1-2.  Playwright Jenny Schwartz launches buckshot barrages of lyrical wordplay in this touching look at life, love and loss. When a tragedy leaves a couple unable to escape their grief, the power of language to enlighten and obscure takes center stage. Stuck in a world where real has lost all meaning, the characters create new ones where the Tooth Fairy is real, GI Joe is a family therapist and love is more a question than an answer. To purchase tickets, please click here.

The Spring Dance Concert will run April 11-13 in the Helms Theatre and you can purchase tickets here.

The spring production of You Can’t Take It With You will run April 18-20 and April 24-27.  Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman’s classic 1936 screwball comedy proves that when it comes to crazy families, everything is relative! When the time comes for a young woman to introduce her exceedingly eccentric brood to her buttoned-up future in-laws, the resulting catastrophe brings cascades of laughter along with important questions about individualism, conformity and the real meaning of “normal.”  For tickets click here.

Culbreth Theatre Renovations And Ruth Caplin Theatre Construction

Culbreth TheatreThe first opportunity for the public to see the newly renovated Culbreth Theatre was November 29, 2012 for the production of the rock musical Spring Awakening. New seats were installed in the entire theater and the layout was modified slightly to accommodate the addition of the state of the art sound control system in the rear of the theatre.  Previously, sound technicians were in a booth at the rear of the theatre and closed off from the actual sound of the theatre.  Moving the sound control system to the rear of the theatre allows the sound designers and technicians to hear the sounds they create as the theatre-goers hear them and provide a better experience for our patrons.

The Ruth Caplin Theatre is currently scheduled to open in April with U.Va. Drama’s production of You Can’t Take It With You.  We are anxiously awaiting this state-of-the-art thrust theatre addition to our Drama facilities.  The theatre is made possible by a generous lead gift from Mortimer and Ruth Caplin and gifts from many generous donors.

The addition of the theatre also made it possible for a full renovation of our lobby.  This will be an open and welcoming space for all of our students and patrons and will feature a floor to ceiling glass wall and enlarged restroom facilities.

Heritage Theatre Festival 2013

The Heritage Theatre Festival will be back in full force this summer with a five-show season filled with classic audience favorites and fascinating contemporary works – and featuring two shows in the new Ruth Caplin Theatre. More information on the 2013 season can be found here.
