Emeritus Professor David Weiss past the 80th mile marker this Spring. And even though he left the Faculty in May of 1991, he by no means entered a life of retirement. He stays actively engaged as an independent theatre consultant and in the life of the department. DW faithfully appears at department productions and makes a point of stopping to chat when he’s in the building. His comprehensive knowledge of the Department’s history and of those students who have passed through the doors of Minor Hall or our current Drama building has proven to be an invaluable resource not only to us “newbies” but also to the College Development Office. His interest doesn’t stop there –his extensive experience as a theatre consultant (he continues to practice) is a great asset as we move into expanding the building that bears his imprint. ...and another Charlottesville institution bearing his imprint – the Heritage Repertory Theatre – continues to thrive as it returns this season bearing a new name, The Heritage Theatre Festival! David is the consummate world traveler – recently returning from a visit to central European cities of Prague, Budapest, Krakow and Warsaw. If you’re looking for an excellent guide for you next world travels, you might get in contact with former department assistant technical director John Everling. Last year DW designed and led John and Debbie Everling on, from all reports, an amazing tour of Italy and Croatia. David – the faculty and staff of the Drama Department salute you – and acknowledge our indebtedness to you for the legacy left to us for future development. |
