Caroline Ryon (Drama ’10) was one of thirty-nine University of Virginia undergraduates to received Harrison Undergraduate Research Awards.  The Awards are given to assist students in conducting independent research during the summer.  See this story in U.Va. Today for more information.

“I applied for this grant, specifically to carry out research on this particular topic, and was lucky to receive an award that will allow me to travel, research, and write on this subject over the course of the next year,” said Caroline.  “This summer, I will be travelling to New York City to conduct my research on the Hallie Flanagan papers at the New York Public Library's Lincoln Center division. I will study her personal correspondence, her Federal Theatre Project files, and other miscellaneous papers while in the city. I will also be obtaining and studying more current records from the National Endowment for the Arts, non-profit organizations, and government resources to draw parallels between the support for the arts exhibited during the Great Depression and those being established now. I also plan to return to New York to conduct further, follow-up research in the Fall.”

Caroline is a 3rd year at U.Va., majoring in English and Drama.  She has performed on stage at U.Va. Drama in Oklahoma! , So Careless, Hedda Gabler and Shakespeares R&J.  She is also active in First Year Players, Honor, Jefferson Literary and Debating Society, Kids Acting Out and Phi Beta Kappa.  You can see Caroline on stage this coming Fall in The Imaginary Invalid
