Summer Plans for our Graduate Students

Jemmy Chen (rising 3rd Year, MFA Acting) will be in the Ensemble for Sound of Music (a Nun) and Musical Director for The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee at the Heritage Theatre Festival.

Jessica Cloutier (rising 3rd Year, MFA Technical Direction) will be working at the Heritage Theater Festival as Scenic Charge and Scenic Designer for A Tuna Christmas.

Andrew Cronacher (rising 3rd Year, MFA Acting) will be on stage at the Heritage Theatre Festival, playing Herr Zeller in The Sound Of Music and Leaf Coneybear in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Andrew will also be teaching a public speaking course at UVA as well as researching and writing my thesis production(s).

Alex Grubbs (rising 3rd Year, MFA Acting) is assisting Colleen Kelly at the American Shakespeare Center in Staunton, VA and will be spending latter half of the summer playing Paul in Barefoot In The Park at the Heritage Theater Festival.

Jeffrey Kmiec (rising 2nd Year, MFA Scenic Design) will be working at the Illinois Shakespeare Festival as Prop Master for three shows and Scenic Designer for As You Like It

Mickie Marie (rising 3rd Year, MFA Lighting Design) will be working at the Kluge Estate Winery.

Dale Marshall (rising 3rd Year, MFA Lighting Direction) will be working for the Heritage Theatre Festival as a Runner to support the Scene Shop.  

Daria Okugawa (rising 3rd Year, MFA Acting) will be on stage at the Heritage Theatre Festival, playing Frau Schmidt in The Sound Of Music.

Alan Perez (rising 3rd Year, MFA Technical Direction) will work as the ATD Draftsman at the Heritage Theatre Festival.  Alan will also be preparing for his third and final year as an MFA student, including trying to get his thesis together, and most importantly, getting married in June!

Laura Rikard (rising 3rd Year, MFA Acting) will begin her summer by performing a devised one-woman show, A Shaker's Path: a theatrical exploration of the life of Mother Ann Lee, as part of the Piccolo Spoleto Festival in Charleston, SC.  She will then return to Charlottesville where she is excited to play the Baroness in Heritage's production of The Sound of Music. She is also co-directing the musical 13 with LIVE Arts and teaching acting in LIVE Arts' Musical theatre camps.  She is also continuing her work with Commedia 'dell Arte by teaching Commedia with the summer youth camp at the American Shakespeare Center.   She plans on doing this all in an Irish-accent as she prepares for her Thesis role of Hester in By the Bog of Cats being produced at U.Va. this Fall.

Justin J Smith (rising 3rd Year, MFA Technical Direction) is working as the Technical director for the Summer Repertory Theatre at Santa Rosa Junior College in Santa Rosa CA.  If you are in the Bay area come up and see our season which includes Peter Pan, The Full Monty, Forever Plaid, Dangerous Liaisons with Vampires and The 25th annual Putnam County Spelling Bee!

Napoleon Tavale (rising 3rd Year, MFA Acting) plans to travel to where he was born, American Samoa.  He has not been back since he was born and is researching his great Uncle, Napoleon Andrew Tuiteleapaga who composed the Country's National Anthem.  Tuiteleapaga was a self-educated man that became a lawyer and songwriter.  Napoleon will be there from the end of June to the end of July.

Randall Wilkerson (rising 3rd Year, MFA Acting) will teach Dram 2020 – Acting I during the U.Va. Summer Session as well as spend a couple of weeks in NYC and Boston researching his thesis.
