Updates on Heritage Theatre Festival
Having sold more than 13,000 tickets and welcomed dozens of theatre professionals from across the country to Charlottesville, Virginia, the 2011 Heritage Theatre Festival once again enjoyed a successful summer. "I don't recall hearing so much unsolicited praise in any other year from our patrons as I did for our productions of My Fair Lady, Boeing Boeing, The 39 Steps and She Loves Me" said Bob Chapel, Artistic Director of HTF. ![]() "Ev'ry duke and earl and peer is here..." Mrs. Higgins (Kate Monaghan, far right) and members of the upper class (from left, Richard Jones, Kirsten Kiwior, Chris Estey, Alison Stokes, and Daniel Prillaman) gather to watch the Ascot opening race in the Heritage Theatre Festival'sproduction of the timeless musical My Fair Lady. On the heels of this success, Chapel is looking towards 2012 and has plans to deliver a unique theatre experience for Heritage patrons. Due to the construction of the new Ruth Caplin Theatre, which will limit access to the Culbreth Theatre during the summer months, the Heritage Theatre Festival plans to produce only one show next summer - 1776, a musical based on the events surrounding the signing of the Declaration of Independence. "Given that this production will be performed in the weeks leading up to Independence Day, and given that it also happens to coincide with Charlottesville's 250th anniversary, we believe that it is a particularly relevant and timely production for the summer of 2012," Chapel says. HTF looks forward to returning in the summer of 2013 at full steam, using all of our theatres for productions, including the new Caplin Theatre. |
