Meet Drama's College Arts Scholars

Last spring several key faculty members, department chairs and senior academic leaders at The College came together, united by a common goal - to attract the best and brightest young artists to U.Va. and, in turn, offer them the educational support and opportunities they need to rise within their disciplines and in arts as a whole. The outcome of this "meeting of the minds" is U.Va.'s first cohort of College Arts Scholars: five students majoring in drama, five in music, five in studio art, and two minoring in dance.

Appointed Director of this new arts scholars program, Michael Rasbury, an Associate Professor in Sound Design within the Department of Drama, says, "When I address [the College Arts Scholars], it is clear they are ready to be challenged by our programs and want to challenge our teaching with their dreams, inspirations, and needs. It is also apparent this group represents a collective of strong, arts-centric undergraduate leaders ready to play a role within their respective disciplines.": The goal of this program, Rasbury explains, is to expand each scholar's breadth of artistic experience and provide interdisciplinary exposure to arts life at The University.
