UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA TO HOST E-SUMMIT@VIRGINIA, A PUBLIC CONFERENCE ABOUT THE INTERNET, LED BY INDUSTRY LEADERS

Attending the Conference

The e-summit@virginia conference is free and open to the public. Seating will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis. No registration is required and there are no fees involved in attending the conference sessions.

Certain events (described further below), can be attended in person, viewed either via a Webcast or U.Va. cable, or viewed in an overflow room. Other events (please see the full Conference Schedule) require in-person attendance.

The Conference Schedule will carry links to the live Webcasts.

Events that will be available via web, cable, or overflow rooms are detailed below.

The time zone (for viewing Webcasts) is Eastern Standard Time.

Friday, November 12, 1999

The Friday plenary session, "Forecasting the Future/Jeffersonian Principles in the Internet Age," will be held at Old Cabell Hall, which seats approximately 850 people. Open seating will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis. This session will also be broadcast live in Newcomb Hall Theatre (435 seats), at the Darden School, Room 50, on U.Va. Cable television, a live webcast (see below), and via satellite (see below).

"Reconceptualizing Commerce," Friday's 2. p.m. concurrent session taking place at the McIntire School of Commerce, can be viewed live at the Darden School, Room 40.

"Entrepreneurship and Wealth Creation," Friday's 3:45 p.m. concurrent session taking place at the Darden School, can also be viewed at the McIntire School of Commerce, Room 130.

Saturday, November 13, 1999

The Saturday plenary session, "The Academical Village in the Internet Age," will be held at Old Cabell Hall, which seats approximately 850 people. Open seating will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis. This session will also be broadcast live in Newcomb Hall Theatre (435 seats), on a live webcast (see below), on U.Va. Cable television, and via satellite (see below).

E-SUMMIT WEBCAST
The e-summit@virginia.edu conference will feature live webcasting via Yahoo! Broadcast Services of the Friday and Saturday sessions and selected concurrent events.

All other sessions will be on the web within 48 hours. Full conference proceedings -- via text, audio, and video -- will also be available.

OPEN HOUSES: Various University departments are hosting open houses for the public at Alderman Library and the Darden School. The departments and specific sites are listed at the bottom of the schedule on the Conference Schedule web site.

PARKING: The University's central hourly visitor parking garage is on Emmet Street, about a block south of the intersection with University Avenue, adjacent to Memorial Gymnasium. There is also hourly parking on "the Corner" in municipal garages on Elliewood Avenue, Fourteenth Street, and Wertland Avenue.

(Parking for people with disabilities:The University's garages have parking spaces designated for persons with disabilities.)

MAPS AND GETTING AROUND: The University of Virginia has two maps available on the web: the first is divided by sections and can be printed out. A complete index is available on this Web Map. The second map gives a Grounds-wide view of the University, and also has an index, although the coordinates are not as easy to read. This Interactive Map requires flash software, which is already installed on most 4.0+ browsers. Please also see the "location" page of this web site for more information.
