Professor Groner's major publications include Saicho: The Establishment of the Japanese Tendai School; Ryogen and Mount Hiei: Japanese Tendai in the Tenth Century, a translation of Hirakawa Akira’s History of Indian Buddhism; and various articles. His research interests are East Asian Buddhism, especially T’ien-t’ai/Tendai Buddhism; issues in monastic discipline; Tendai views of the path; and Japanese nuns in pre-modern Japan.
