Awards Given by the Department of Economics
Economics majors who are currently third-year students may apply for the William M. Hill, Jr. Award, a scholarship
to be paid during the recipient's fourth year. Criteria for the award
are "strong potential, significant contributions to the University community,
a positive outlook on life, and a Jeffersonian intellectual curiosity."
Transfer students may apply. Details are announced each February.
MARSHALL JEVONS FUND was established to give small grants of up to $500 to undergraduate students to support research projects and academic travel in the field of economics. Typical uses of the funds include attending conferences, conducting interviews, and acquiring specialized data.
The Duncan Clark Hyde Awards, including one for Outstanding Major,
recognize exceptional academic performance in economics. The awards, which
include monetary stipends, are made to fourth-year students each spring.
The Kenneth G. Elzinga Scholarship for Academic Excellence recognizes
a rising fourth-year economics major in the College for outstanding academic
performance, both in economics courses and in general coursework. This
award has been made possible by a generous gift to the College from Albert
W. Rice, IV (CLAS 1980) and Violaine A. Rice (Curry 1982).
