Contributions to the Economics Department

Your tax-deductible contribution to the Economics Department  allows  us to enhance our teaching and research missions in the face of stagnant state support.

Among the uses for private contributions are:

  • Enhancements to our undergraduate program, including funding a reception for parents and graduates after our diploma ceremony in May, encouraging undergraduate research and fostering the Undergraduate Economics Club’s peer tutoring program.
  • Furniture and equipment for our new Monroe Hall quarters. After five years in the beautiful Dynamics Building (see photo), the department will move in the summer of 2009 to Monroe Hall which now houses the Commerce School.  We do not know the extent to which the central administration will be willing or able to provide us with furnishings and equipment we will need for our new quarters.  As an example, twice in the last twelve years when all or part of the department has been moved,  the department has been asked to pay for part of the cost of the bookshelves and office furniture for our faculty offices.
  • Faculty research travel.  Our faculty, especially our young assistant professors, need to travel to conferences to present their research and become known to the leaders of their field.  All faculty need to work with coauthors which also requires travel.
  • Graduate student research support.  Our graduate students often incur relatively inexpensive research expenses such as software, data, and travel to conferences or to get data for their research projects.
