August 2007 August 6 Are you a fourth-year hoping to declare the Financial Economics concentration? Unfortunately, this concentration will NOT be available to you. The capstone course, ECON 436, will be offered for the first time in Fall 2008. Since ECON 436 is a required course, this means that those graduating in May 2008 cannot declare a Financial Economics concentration. April 2008 April 3 Hi all: This is aimed at any student who is considering taking ECON 372 as a way to satisfy the statistics prerequisite and declare the Economics major. Some students who have received a C- or lower in their first statistics course have tried taking ECON 372 (or ECON 472) as a way to enter the major. This is not appropriate, and we are in the process of changing our rules to eliminate that possibility. But all students who have completed 372, or who are completing it now, are “grand-fathered”. The new rule will read as follows: Statistics. Complete one of the following courses—ECON 371; MATH 312; APMA 311 or 312; or STAT 212—with a minimum grade of C. Students who have AP or transfer credit for one of the preceding courses at the time that they matriculate at the University, or who completed ECON 372 or 472 prior to Fall 2008 with a grade of C or higher, are exempt from this requirement. With permission from the Director of Undergraduate Studies, SEAS students may declare the economics major, and later complete statistics in the third year, using APMA 312 or MATH 312.
