H1N1 (swine flu) Information for Students, Faculty & Staff
A Message from Leonard W. Sandridge, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer
Friday, May 1, 2009 (8:27 p.m.)
Although no cases of H1N1 (swine flu) have been reported in Charlottesville and only two cases have been confirmed in the state of Virginia, the University is addressing the possibility of a flu outbreak with an abundance of caution. As always, the safety and well being of all members of the University community -- students, staff, and faculty -- are our primary concern.
While there is currently no cause for alarm in Charlottesville, the University's Critical Incident Management team met on Friday, May 1, 2009, to review the current situation as well as to discuss steps that have been taken as a precaution.
At this time, the University is operating on a regular schedule, and there are no plans to alter or cancel academic programs planned for the summer term including U.Va. study abroad programs.
This is an evolving situation and we will continue to monitor it closely and communicate with all members of the University community on a regular basis. In the meantime, I suggest that those who want to stay apprised of the latest information about what the University is doing visit the University’s flu site.
Here you will find not only an informative University Q&A, but also links to reliable information from the CDC and useful tips on how you can help protect yourself, your coworkers, and your family members from the H1N1 flu virus.
Leonard W. Sandridge, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.
