Who is my representative?
Membership:
There are
approximately 10,000 university employees–8,000 of whom are classified staff. In
order to be an effective council, an important communications resource for both
the administration and the employee, and an effective voice on important issues
that affect the employee and his/her job, the council requires a number of
representatives from each school or designated area that is proportionate to the
number of total classified employees in each area as determined by the provost’s
office. Representatives are nominated and elected
by their peers for a two-year term. If no
election takes place employees may volunteer to serve.
How does the council work?
Executive Councils – Comprised of chairs and vice
chairs of each council, the executive council meets with the vice president and
chief executive officer to discuss issues from all five communications councils.
Employee-Level Councils - Comprised of elected
representatives from various schools, the employee level councils meet to
discuss employee issues and concerns, suggestions for improvements, etc.
When necessary, the council then provides a resource or a contact from whom the
employee may best find a solution; in most cases this resource person is invited
to a meeting. Questions are asked by council representatives for a clearer
understanding of the particular issue.
Administration - Relative information is passed on to employee councils for
dissemination to their constituents.
How often do we meet?
The Employee Council meets on
the 2nd Tuesday of each month from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. There is no
meeting in August. Locations vary. See
Meetings for complete schedule
and minutes.
