Guest Speaker

Trisha Gordon- MyUVa Portal Webmaster from ITC:

Trisha talked about MyUVa Web Portal. The portal is intended to provide one-stop access to many UVa services, tools, and information for students, faculty, and staff. Information is targeted to groups based on their primary affiliation with the University. For example, MyUVa provides a new student checklist to help incoming students get started with housing, finances, dining, etc. The beauty of the Portal is to target information to specific groups of people. You may also customize MyUVa to suit your needs. To access MyUVa, browse to http://myuva.virginia.edu and use your computing ID and any NetBadge-approved account password to login. There is a feedback form available on the login page that may be used to submit suggestions and feedback.

New Business:

·                 Arlene Buynak had a correction for the Feb. Minutes. She will get together with Missy Brads. Missy will email the final version for approval to committee members.

·                 We need someone to volunteer for the Council Table at the Resource Fair in April. The fair lasts for 2 ˝ hours.  There will be a display board. The table represents all the councils, so Missy will confirm that the other councils will also be present at the table during the Resource Fair.  If anyone has any information or pictures to add to the display board, please give to Nykki.

·                 The Day of Caring is on Wed., Sept.20th.  UVa employees work together in teams that are led by Team Leaders to provide a day of volunteer service to local community groups and organizations.  Team Leaders pick a work project for their group.  A group has represented the Council in the past, and this group will need a team leader.  The Community Relations office works with United Way to coordinate UVa volunteer groups.  Please refer employees to UVa’s Community Relations office, 924-3165 or http://www.dayofcaring.info/home/ for additional information.

·                 Missy attended the first Diversity Operations Council meeting with William Harvey, the Chief Officer for Diversity and Equity.  The council will share diversity-related information and develop institutional initiatives.  If anyone has any issues to discuss, please see Missy.  The Diversity council meets every 3rd Thursday of the month from 9:00a.m. -11:00a.m.  They are a large group of people from all over the University community.  Gil Pearman is the Council’s alternate, whenever Missy cannot attend.

Our next Council meeting will be on April 20th, 2006. We will be meeting at 400 Ray C. Hunt Dr. in Conference room A. We will be having our Council “Revitalization” workshop Session. It is important that all council members attend this meeting.
