New Business:
1. The minutes for September’s meeting are still being reviewed. Missy will email council members with the final version for electronic approval.
2. The BIS open house is on Oct. 26th from 5:00pm-6:30pm in the lounge at Zehmer Hall.
3. Beth Reinhard and Missy Brads both participated in the HR Restructuring Focus Group. Please note that some people in your area may be randomly selected for additional focus groups that are being formed. Some topics of discussion were designing a new Merit based pay System with 3 different ratings and improving the in-band adjustment process.
4. The Dec.21st council meeting will remain as scheduled.
5. We will be sponsoring a family for Christmas by participating in the Madison House’s Holiday Sharing program.
6. The next election process will be in June of 2007, pending the new bylaw changes being approved for the voting process.

Broccoli-Assistant director, University Benefits-Open Enrollment:
Southern Health Services, the UVa Health Plan’s Third Party Administrator has contracted with a new mental health vendor. The new provider for mental health is United Behavioral Health (UBH). If your provider is not part of the new network, you will have 90 days to continue with your current provider. In addition, Southern Health Services is introducing a new national network. The new national network replaces the current national network PHCS (Private HealthCare System). The new national network effective 1/1/2007 is Coventry Health Care National Network.
You must complete and submit the proper forms to change between health plan programs, to add or drop an eligible spouse or dependant, change premium payroll deduction from pre to post tax or vice versa.
There are changes to the Prescription drug plan for brand name drugs. The generic copayments will remain the same: The 30 day retail copayments are: generic $9.00, formulary brand $20.00, Non-formulary brand $40.00.
The dental plan maximum has increased from $1000.00 to $1500.00 per person per year. Outpatient facility and anesthesia will be covered for dental work done on children under age 5.
Physical, occupational and speech therapy services are expanding to include restorative therapy beyond 90 day’s from the date of injury.
Things to consider for when deciding which health plan program to select:

Tolerance for unexpected costs

Flexible Spending Accounts:

Programs are use or lose
Direct deposit or check reimbursement
Funds are available immediately after Jan. 1st if you enroll on-line for medical FSA. Otherwise, funds are not available until after first payroll deposit.

$2.75 per month administrative fee
Changes are limited based on qualifying events
Health Care flexible spending accounts:
Min.-$240.00, Max- $5000.00
New employees can enroll immediately, no longer a 12 month waiting period.
Have until March 15th, 2008 to incur claims and until April 30th to file claims.
Your Flex Spending Account can be used for drug co-pays, vision care, certain OTC costs, uncovered dental, and Chiropractic services.
You can not use your account for cosmetic surgery, Premiums, or Vitamins & Herbal supplements.
Dependant Care Accounts can be used for before and after school care or nursery school care. You can not use it for child support or educational supplies.
Tax Deferred Savings Program:
New Limits:
Age 49 and younger can have up to $15,500.00
Age 50 or older can have up to $20,500.00 per year
You must complete a New Salary Reduction Agreement if you wish to change your deferral amount.
For cash match, the University matches 50% of your contribution into the tax deferred savings program up to a maximum of $40.00 per month.
Kathleen Jump felt that council members should encourage people to use the tax deferred savings plan because of its great benefits.

Alan will be meeting with William & Mary and
Virginia Tech tomorrow to go over Charter business. The university has a
contract with Segal Company. The objective is to form
an unbiased group to help with the restructuring. There is a FOCUS group that is forming to gather information from faculty and staff. There will be an electronic survey going out to all employees about the HR restructuring.

Susan Carkeek is the new Chief Human Resources
Officer.

The Resource Fair is on Thursday, Nov. 9th
at Newcomb Hall from 9am.-2-pm., and just in time for open enrollment. There
will be a new orientation video shown in the morning.

Alan will supply Missy with a listing of all the
new hires over the last three months.

Mark Fletcher will be doing another night walk
to determine what areas around the university are poorly lit or unsafe, so that
these areas can be improved and increase safety.

The CVC campaign has gotten off to a good start.
We are trying to achieve a higher level of participants.
