HR would like people to let them know how they want their names printed on the awards or if there is anyone who should have received an award but didn’t.

·       The state has added new Disaster Relief requirements to the EWPs for state employees. You could be called up anytime to serve in case of an emergency situation.

Kathleen Jump EVP/ECC ex officio:

·       Michael Gibson has been appointed Chief of Police.

·       Searches:  A search committee has been appointed for the Dean of Arts and Sciences search.  President Casteen is leading discussions relative to the search for the Provost.

·       Capital Project:  Planning for the Gateway for Arts project, at the corner of Emmet and Ivy, is moving forward.

·       The General Assembly is in session; this year is a short biannual session.

·       James Hilton is leading an initiative to change student SS#’s to new ID#’s. This could take 2 years to complete. The university will still need to maintain student SS#’s for federal filing.

Guest Speakers

Bill Vining with the Travel Program:

·       The Travel Program meets once a year. They set up 2 foreign trips per year.

·       They have 90% repeat customers. They have noticed a lack of new comers and would like to be sure people know about the program.

·       The Travel Program advertises in InsideUVA and has a link from the University Website for more information.

·       There is a trip to Innsbruck, Austria in Fall 2007 and a trip to Scottland in Spring 2008. They are trying to get a trip to Hawaii in the fall of 2008. If you’d like further information contact Jackie Cooke in HR at 4-4430.

Bill Harvey VP & Chief Officer for Diversity and Equity:

·       We want to set the bar for other institutions to look at how we handle situations at the University. We have had significantly fewer racial incidents this year among the student body.

·       Implement a transformative environment where people feel empowered and get recognition for what they do.

·       The Diversity Council reviews university and student issues. Some current issues are related to students. How do we get students to recognize poor behavior? Other students need to set the example. During Orientation 1st year students need to know we do not accept or tolerate inappropriate behavior.

·       Look at the big picture and the smaller areas within that picture.

·       Provide opportunities for students w/special needs and talents. The more interest and opportunities we provide the more we benefit others.

·       Just Report It- is an anonymous tool used for reporting bias incidents.  An electronic report on the instances is provided to the University Police, Vice President’s office and the Diversity Office.

·       There is a mandatory Diversity training for all Supervisory positions.

·       There will be a trip in March to some of the key cities involved in the Civil Rights movement. For further information Contact Julian Bond or Kelli Palmer at 924-3337.

Our next meeting will be on February 15th, 2007. We will be meeting at 400 Ray C. Hunt Dr. in conference room A. David Neuman with the Architecture Department will be our guest speaker.
