Council Business
Old Business:
1. Elections take place next month. Email in nominations to the nominations
committee. Deadline for nominations is July 5th.
2. There will not be a council meeting in August.
New Business:

2. Missy Brads went to a Council Seminar at VTECH. Proposed seminar at UVA will help provide guidelines on responsibilities of a council member.
3. The council is searching for representatives for the UVA Bookstore, IM-Rec/Athletics and Development. Dawn Brennan has been appointed as a second representative for ITC. Also, the Student Affairs Council has been officially dissolved, so a representative and alternate will be assigned to our Employee Council to represent the entire Student Affairs area.
4. Diddy Morris will have information regarding the bicycle smart map, which was developed and made as a joint project between the University Architect’s office and the Department of Parking and Transportation. Information can be found at: http://www.virginia.edu/parking/images/Bike_Map_Web.pdf

Commission on the Future of the University,
President Casteen will be sending an email to everyone to read the draft report.

BOV leadership is changing. There are three new
appointments. Faculty requested a seat on the board. Ken Schwartz has been
invited to sit on three board committees as a non voting member.

Economic Impact-brochure. UVA contributes
approximately 1 billion dollars to the Community.
·
Sustainability-Environment – UVA is a leader in
Environment. See the website at Virginia.edu/sustainability.
· Plus One (Gym membership) – Based on an opinion from the state attorney general, faculty and staff receiving benefits and full-time students are able to select an adult member of their household to gain access to the University's gyms for a yearly fee. http://www.virginia.edu/ims/membership/eligibility.html
Beth Reinhard, HR:
· The Restructuring Survey results are due at the end of August. So far they have had a 46% response rate.
· Jackie Cooke retired on Friday June 15. She was with Employee Relations and helped with the Travel Program.
The Austria Trip is in October.
There will not be a trip to
· “Jobs@UVA” is at the last Pilot stage, and will go live July 30th. Departments will follow up on interviews. Beth will try to have someone at our next meeting to discuss the new website.

· Carol spoke about the Parking and Transportation Survey.

Most
· Right now we pay more for parking than we do for health care [note: this is the case for a single employee only]. The survey is aimed towards and should answer a lot of questions.
· What kind of system do you want?
· 56% of classified/university staff make under $40,000 a year. Of those, 50% are paying for parking.
· Carol will meet with Rich Kovatch and Becca White to discuss how to proceed with the survey.
· If reduced rate, where is the funding going to come from? Endowments, JPJ arena, and they are looking at other sources for funding.
