·        Facilities Management and Parking & Transportation partner with the Architect’s Office on designing, constructing and renovating projects.

·        Safety and Security Guidelines – currently reviewing existing security and best practices, to incorporate safety and security into new designs and renovations.

·        Highlights of the presentation include:

1.      Arts Grounds parking garage – Feb 2008 completion.  Will contain 600 parking spaces.

2.      Rouss Hall Renovation and Addition (McIntire) – March 2008 completion.  Will have a “green” roof with water features, trees, and gardens.  It will be approximately 120,000 square ft.

3.      Varsity Hall – December 2007 completion.  The building has been moved and renovations are continuing.  A paint analysis has been done on the building and it will be restored with its original colors.

4.      Main Heat Plant Compliance – September 2008 completion.  Adding coal power.  Discussed clean burn ideas such as “co-generation”, which are turbines that use the heat off-put to freeze water for A/C chilling, and can put back into the power grid what we don’t use.

5.      Hospital expansion and renovation – August 2007 completion.

6.      Claude Moore Medical Education Building – Fall 2009 completion.  The hospital is sharing some of the construction costs.  One of the bottom floors will be used for simulation training (life-like robots to train students).  Faculty will be able to use the facility when not in use by the students to further their training.

7.      Emily Couric Cancer Center – Fall 2010 completion.  Construction of the new garage must be completed before the Cancer Center construction can begin.  The new garage will triple the current parking available.

8.      South Lawn Phase I – Fall 2010 completion.  Demolition and utility installation will begin this summer.  The terrace construction (walkway across JPA) will begin sometime in 2008/2009.  Adding 2 new parking lots at the back of the B1 lot (116 spaces) and across Brandon Ave (44 spaces).  There will always be 2 lanes of traffic open during the day.  Construction on/over JPA will only be late at night into the early morning.

9.      LEED Certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) - 4 buildings are aiming for LEED certification: South Lawn Project, Cancer Center, Bavaro School of Education, and the Claude Moore Medical Education Building.  Certification looks at quantity of toxic run-off, efficient designs, materials, green roofs, etc.

Our next meeting will be on June 21st, 2007 from 1:30pm.-3:00pm. We will be meeting at 400 Ray C. Hunt Dr. in conference room A.
