Tips for Being an Informed Patient

University of Virginia School of Nursing Dean, Jeanette Lancaster will provide important information on the active role that caretakers and patients can take in the hospital setting to prevent medical errors. She will also discuss how to assess and evaluate health care information, specifically Internet resources. Through education and advocacy, Dean Lancaster suggests that medical error prevention is a joint effort.

Dean Jeanette Lancaster
Dean Jeanette Lancaster is recognized as a national and international authority on community health nursing, nursing education and leadership, and public policy. Her role as a practice leader and as Associate Chief Nursing Officer of the UVA Health System provides the opportunity to maintain an understanding of current trends, issues, and challenges in health care. Her UVA tenure has been distinguished by her innovative efforts to improve gender imbalance at the University to give women a more equal role in decision-making, by new alliances forged within the UVA Health System, and by leading the School of Nursing to greater national prominence.
