Checklist for Filling Faculty and Executive Staff Positions

As a hiring official and/or search committee member one of the most important responsibilities you have to the University is to identify, recommend, and hire the most qualified individuals fo fill open positions. You play a critical role in conducting an effective and successful recruitment and hiring process. The primary goal of this process is to hire the best qualified candidate, filling the position in a timely manner. To achieve this goal, we use a merit-based system, which includes vigorous recruitment and outreach in an effort to ensure diverse applicant pools and inclusive hiring.

The following checklist enumerates the steps that must be taken in order to comply with federal and state laws and regulations, and EOP procedural guidelines. The office of EOP is available to support and assist you during the recruitment and hiring process.

  1. Establish the Search Committee
  2. Develop the Position Description
  3. Create the Posting
  4. Develop the Recruitment Plan
  5. Certify the Applicant Pool
  6. Screen the Applications
  7. Conduct the Interviews
  8. Conduct Reference Checks
  9. Select the Candidate and Prepare Hiring Proposal
  10. Prepare Offer Letter
  11. Close the Search
  12. Compile the Record of the Search
