students

The major is designed for students with a strong interest in the theory and practice of environmental issues. Each spring a maximum of 15 students will be selected for the program from a pool of applicants. Students will be chosen on the basis of prior academic performance, faculty recommendation, and an essay explaining the student's interest in the field. The program will provide students with a background for continued study in graduate and professional schools or careers in business, government, NGOs, or advocacy groups

Students should apply in the spring of their second year. ETP students are often enrolled in other degree programs at UVA, but ETP majors must demonstrate that they can fulfill the major's requirements in a timely fashion.

Students interested in becoming ETP majors should submit:

  1. a completed ETP application form ( .pdf format - download Acrobat Reader for free);
  2. a letter of recommendation from a faculty member (other than the ETP Director and Associate Director); and,
  3. a 300-400 word essay addressing why you are interested in becoming an ETP major.

There will be rolling admissions, with applications accepted between January 15 and February 28, 2014. Completed applications must be submitted in full by February 28 to be considered. Applicants should email above materials to the ETP Program Administrator Meg Graham at meg3fz (at) virginia.edu.
