Review and Approval of the Academic Affairs Committee Report to the Faculty Senate: Faculty Senate Perspectives on Honor

The Honor System document was distributed and discussed. Suggestions were made for slight revisions to the document. Pamela Kulbok called for a vote to approve the document (with revisions). A vote for approval of the document was made, and it passed unanimously. The document will be circulated to officers of the Honor Committee and the Faculty Advisory Committee. The document will then go before the Executive Council for approval, and it will be presented and voted on at the upcoming Faculty Senate meeting on April 8, 2004.

Review and Approval of Program Closures

Robert J. Davis, Chair of the Department of Chemical Engineering, and a member of the Academic Affairs Committee, gave the Committee an overview of the history and reasons for the termination of four degrees in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. A memorandum from Richard Miksad, the Dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Science, was distributed. The memorandum also gives background information regarding the request to eliminate the degree programs. The programs to be eliminated are 1) B.S. in Applied Mathematics, 2) Masters of Science in Applied Mathematics, 3) Masters of Applied Mathematics, and 4) Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics. The four Engineering degree programs have gone through all Engineering approval processes. Pamela Kulbok called for a vote on approving the elimination of the above mentioned degree programs. A vote was made from the floor, and it passed unanimously. The proposal will next go before the Executive Council for approval. It will be voted on by the full Senate at the April 8, 2004, meeting.
