Newcomb Hall Board Room

Present: William Kehoe, Jenny Clay, Roseanne Ford, Hilary Sanfey, Susan Perry, Donal Day, Karen Ryan, Reginald Garrett, Gabriel Robins

William J. Kehoe, Chair of the Research and Scholarship Committee, called the meeting to order.

The minutes for the November 3, 2000, meeting were approved, seconded, and passed unanimously.

Susan Perry, Chair of the Harrison Undergraduate Research Awards Committee, reported on the work of that Committee. There were a total of 95 applications, of which 13 were ruled ineligible. Of the remaining 82 applications, 27 Award recipients have been chosen and 20 were rejected. The application pool is now at 35, with 13 more applications to be chosen, for a total of 40 Award recipients. It was noted that there are some budget issues that the Committee will need to be address as final decisions are being made. The remaining 35 applications were divided among Reginald Garrett, Hilary Sanfey, Roseanne Ford, and Karen Ryan, so that these applications can be reviewed and the 13 remaining Award recipients chosen. The Committee will try to have their reviews and selections complete by Wednesday, December 6.

The Research and Scholarship Committee will meet again on Friday, December 8th to discuss the final Award recipients and their budgets. If sufficient funds are left in the Harrison Undergraduate Research Awards account, more Award recipients may be chosen. Mr. Kehoe said that, in the spring, the Committee will review the Harrison Awards process and create a detailed description of the process for future use. Provost Peter Low will be invited to that meeting.

The meeting adjourned at 2:30 p.m.
