Present: Patricia Werhane, Robert Grainger, David Gies, Michael Smith, Kathryn Neeley, Houston Wood, George Cohen, Michael Levenson, Julian Connolly

Patricia Werhane, Chair of the Faculty Senate, called the meeting to order.

The main agenda item was to discuss and approve the Faculty Senate's report on the 2020 Commissions/Fora. Some Council members felt the "overview" had a negative tone in some areas. The group discussed the overview and the Commission reports and suggestions were made for some revisions. Ms. Werhane and Robert Grainger will work on revisions and send a new draft to the Executive Council for approval before the documents are forward to the President, deans and other interested parties.

Ms. Werhane said the Executive Council should meet again before the upcoming Faculty Senate meeting, which is on Wednesday, February 21, from 3:00-5:00 p.m., in the Rotunda Dome Room. Ms.

Werhane reported that Laura Kelsh, Director of University Planning, has contacted her to say a new committee is being established to address institutional effectiveness. Ms. Kelsh asked Ms. Werhane for suggestions of faculty members to serve on the committee. There should be representatives from three different schools, to include Arts & Sciences. Ms. Werhane will also suggest three additional faculty members from the School of Medicine. The Executive Councilors will consider people for the committee and forward their recommendations to Ms. Werhane.

The issue of the University offering "partner" benefits to non-married partners was discussed. Michael Smith agreed to look into what other State institutes are doing in this regard, and he will report back to the Executive Council. It was noted that this issue is essential in recruitment and retention of faculty members.

Ms. Werhane will send an e-mail message to the full Senate, asking if the issue of wide-spread use of faculty Social Security numbers by the University is an issue they would like the Executive Council to pursue.

Ms. Werhane announced that the new football coach, Al Groh, would like to meet with the members of the Executive Council.

The meeting adjourned at 4:40 p.m.
