December 1, 1997
Present: David Gies, Jahan Ramazani, Paul Cantor, Julian
Connolly, Daniel Larson, Paul Mahoney, Kenneth Schwartz, Barbara
Parker, Craig Sarazin, Craig Slingluff, Martha Snell, Houston Wood
David Gies called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. in 110 Peabody
Hall.
Mr. Gies welcomed everyone to the meeting and introduced a new
member of the Committee, Kenneth Schwartz, from the School of
Architecture.
The primary agenda for the meeting was to review and make
revisions if necessary to the report that the Committee will be
submitting to the Executive Council later in the day, and then to the
full Senate for their endorsement.
Dan Larson reported that his subcommittee had contacted other
institutions regarding the existence of faculty centers, and if they
are successful. Clubs that are not solely for faculty, but for a
broader-based group of constituents, seem to work best. It was
pointed out that the most successful clubs are inclusive rather than
exclusive.
Suggestions were made for revisions to the report, which Mr. Gies
will incorporate into the report, and he will present it to the
Executive Council this afternoon for their endorsement.
The meeting adjourned at 10:55 a.m.
