Rebecca Kneedler called the meeting to order at 9:05 a.m. in
Room 200 at Ruffner Hall. In attendance were Jahan Ramazani, Dan
Larson, Susan McKinnon, Miles Townsend, Patricia Werhane, Michael
Williams and Ed Ayers. Guests were Peter Low, Vice President and
Provost, Shirley Menaker, Associate Provost for Academic Support, and
Rick Myers, Assistant to the Provost.
Rebecca Kneedler gave an overview of selected accomplishments
and mentioned some of the ongoing issues the Senate is working on.
The Self-Study Report and the Senate's role in achieving some of the
initiatives set forth in the report was discussed.
Rick Myers reported on suggested items in the Self-Study Report
that the Senate could work with. Mr. Myers distributed a report,
"Restructuring Brief #8," which contains seven goals Mr. Myers feels
would be of interest to the Senate. The Executive Council discussed
these goals and what the Senate's role might be in achieving
them.
Peter Low discussed the Faculty Handbook, which is in the
process of being put on the Web. The document can be found on the
Provost's homepage under the "Faculty Handbook" listing.
In an offer to help with some of the issues facing the Honor
System, it was decided that the Executive Council would invite some
of the Honor System officers to a future meeting.
