Agenda Digest

The meeting was called to order at 3:00 p.m. in the Lower Level Conference Room at Madison Hall. In attendance were Ed Ayers, Ben Ray, Harold Burbach, Rebecca Kneedler, Doris Glick, Ingrid Soudek, George Cohen, Richard DeMong, Diane Snustad, Milton Adams and Mark Haskins. Special guests were Sean Bryant, Student member of the Board of Visitors, and Scott Sonenshein, undergraduate student.

Business:

Sean Bryant discussed the idea of student evaluation of teaching by use of the World Wide Web. There was a question and answer session regarding the proposed initiative. Mr. Bryant asked if the faculty would be willing to invest in a project of this sort. The Academic Affairs Committee agreed that this issue should run parallel to the Committee's overall statement regarding the evaluaiton of teaching.

Teaching Evaluation: It was decided that the Committee should make a statement with a list of things the Committee thinks is essential to a good faculty evaluation system and send it to the Senate for feedback. There should be an accompaning opening statement with the document.
